Bird Carving Classes at Junior High Schools

In 2000, I started having the bird carving classes at a junior high school in Chiba prefecture.  I taught the students how to make the decoy of Little Tern, so that they could study the protection of the environment.  Being the Bird of Chiba city, they tried to find the cause of its decreasing the population year by year and discussed the preserving the birds.

The decoys they made have been lending for the preservation activities throughout Japan.  In another junior high school in Chiba prefecture, I had taught from 2003 through to 2010:  about 4000 decoys in total had been made in 8 years.  800 out of those decoys have been working for the activities in the nesting ground on the roof of the sewage plant in Tokyo.

The Little Tern came down attracted by the decoys.  A new colony was developed and they started building nests.

The decoy making is one of the model of loving birds education.
